My Uber from the airport was a Lexus ES350 like this one, and I simply loved being a passenger in it

The ride,oh man the ride. So smooth, so sublime, it was like pulling silk over polished glass. Never floaty or bouncy, refined and so quiet, even the engine. Hardly any road noise and bigger bumps and potholes were dismissed with a muffled “thud thud”. Obviously I assume with that suspension it would not handle well but who cares on suburban streets and freeways. acres of leg space and the leather was so soft but the trim fake wood etc was kinda tacky but who cares? comfy seats. I understand why old people like this so much.

What other cars offer a similar experience outside of Lexus? I remember a 7 series from couple of years ago that was like this.

I found this list which says pretty much all the German/Korean/Japanese flagships !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

It’s funny what people focus on and how it affects their perceived experience. I rode in a guy’s ES 350 Uber a few years ago. My lasting impression was that the ride was fine, but that the interior materials were just okay for what I expected in a luxury marque.

Maybe I would have been happier if I’d just enjoyed the ride and not been so critical.

My wife's grandmother has one. It's fantastic. After I drove it I was like: I get it. It's not fun or exciting, but I would give zero shits about how much traffic I sat in if I drove that car.

One of the last of the pure luxury cars, where luxury is defined as comfort, relaxation, and isolation while surrounded by quality materials and workmanship. It may not be the sort of car I would own, but I've never questioned why people buy them and would have no trouble recommending an ES to someone.

I rode in one as an Uber as well. No idea how they are to drive, but I kinda felt like someone important/wealthy in the backseat of that car. The ride was comfortable, the engine note was just refined and just loud enough, and overall it was infinitely better than any cabbie I've been in.

The ES is a great car for an Uber, your passenger will feel pampered, and your repair bills will be Camry- esk

I didn’t like driving my loaner 2017 ES350, but I did appreciate in it the creature comforts missing from my ‘10 IS-F.

There was a post a while ago about the QA differences on a Toyota vs Lexus, maybe I’ll look for it later. It’s not just a fancy Camry, although it shure seems that way on the surface.

Yup! Toyota makes the best cars. NOBODY beats the quality, luxury, and prestige of Le xus :o)

You will not get a better experience with a smooth quiet ride that can go a long time with no problems. MAYBE the Equus is close

How front-wheel heavy is the ES? Does it feel like you’re driving a Camry?

My RX330 still emulates this, even with 254,000 miles, though the suspension is probably a bit bouncier since it’s definitely not as fresh . But I’ve been commuting 70 miles each day and it is just so nice to ride in. So quiet, more than enough power, AWD that plows through everything I’ve thrown at it, and a very useful trunk and backseat.

Somehow this turned into me bragging about my generally hated crossover, but, man, do I love that car as a comfy cruiser. It is just  such a good all around car, as long as you’re not looking for a sporty drive.

Also, all Lexuses use real wood in their interiors! The finish on the wood can be pretty bad though, which makes it look fake.

I feel like this or an Avalon would do admirably at the same task of comfortable cruising.

To me, anything not RWD feels pretty front-wheel heavy. When driving around in a loaner I don’t really put it through its paces like a fully insured rental, so I can’t say for shure. The steering is light like it should be, and changing directions should be performed like one is driving a 600 Grosser.

I’ve never driven an Avalon (it’s not exactly on my radar) but if I get some decent time off, I might turo one for a few days and see what the fuss is about.

Poorly presented, o verly wordy obscure oppo reviews don’t write themselves.

This is mostly marketing fluff, but even if a fraction of this stuff is true for Lexus QA, aside from direct part quality, Lexus standards are much higher.

My GS is honestly sort of the same way - glides down the road, insulating you from all the nonsense outside.  It isn’t exciting to drive, but it just sort of works in an overall package.

I’ll take your word for it. No lexus dealer in the nearest 100 miles so I gotta wait before a used 2018 pops up nearby and can test drive it.
